Hertfordshire, son of Thomas Parris, gent, was granted use of Arms, June 15, 1573. John Parris, Island of Barbadoes, Esq., left a will dated May 15, 1660, probatedOct. 3. 1661, naming wife Susanna. He had no children so entailed his estate to his brother Thomas Parris' three sons. i.Thomas, ii.Samuel and iii.Martin. It was these young men who came to New England. This will names a brother Richard Parris, deceased, and his daughter, Sarah; sisters, Margaret Bulby and Rebecca Parris and cousin Thomas Martaine's son, Thomas, and sister-in-law Susanna Parris. She was the wife of Thomas Parris who died in the Barbadoes while there on business. His estate was in the County of Middlesex, June 9-10, 1665. John Parys. Somerset. time of Edward III, John Parys married Elena Hevereroft 1526/7, London. Name Parish confounded with name Paris. i.Wilhemus de Paryseh 1379 Yorkshire. ii.Thomas de Paryseh 1379 Yorkshire, iii.Marjorie de Paryseh 1455 Yorkshire, In a study of the coats of arms used by men named "Paris" and "Parrish" from the very earliest one down, there is a striking similarity in design though no one line seemed to carry the use of arms on continuously. Even in the design of their coats of arms the two names seem confounded. For Parish: gules 3 unicorn's heads couped argent; crest a unicorn head erased argent. This in variation is used for Paris, of Lincolnshire, and, in 1573, for Paris of Hitchen, Hertfordshire. (See Burkes General Armory.) The 10 crosslets and chevron is used by the Paris of Lincolnshire as the oldest form. Lincolnshire Pedigrees, page 117. Edward Parrish died 1783 ac 73: d.s.p. (died without issue)." </ref> === Notes === : Note <span id='NI17101'>NI17101</span>From Parrish Family History:: The first Parrish, of our lineage, in America begins with Thomas Parrish, who came from England and arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1622. At that time there were less than 500 white people in America. This Thomas Parrish had sons, Abraham, Edward, Robert, Richard and Thomas. No record mentioned the wife or mother, but I bet there was one. Also no daughters were mentioned. Women weren't to important in those days as far as records were concern -- No women's lib.: Of these sons of Thomas Parrish, Edward moved to Anne Arundel County, Maryland, in or about 1655. His brother Robert arriving in 1669. Robert and Richard shows up in in Talbot County, Maryland, sometime later. There is no record of three brothers living in Anne Arundel County, but the record shows that Edward and Robert lived there. It is not sure if Robert is a brother, he may be Edward's son, for it is said that Edward had perhaps six children. We do pick up some history of Robert Parrish in Talbot County, Maryland, where he was paid tobacco for service rendered during an Indian uprising in 1678 and again in Queen Anne's county in 1721, when he wass married to Cecilia Jadwin and they had two children, robert and Jadwin. : Edward Parrish of Ann-Arundel County, Maryland:: Edward Parrish, born about 1640, in England, died 1680 in the early spring of the year at his home place in West River Hundred on Herring Creek about seven miles below Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Buried there with wife, Clara. Married about 1664, to Clara, (mainden name unknown) in Maryland. His occupation: Planter.: Clara was born about 1640-42, she died before 1720 at her home place and is buried there. Children: Edward, John, Ann, Mary, William, one or two others, names unknown.: Edward Parrish was a large land holder and owned over 2,000 acres where the City of Baltimore, Maryland now stands. Following is the legal discription of land in those days. Worded a wee bit different than now. : : DRUID HILL PARK, BALTIMORE, MD. : (Originally Parrishes Range,. Surveyed for Edward Parrish I, 1678): Thomas Darling patened 350 acres, 1688, out of a tract of 2000 acres Thomas Richardson : Said Thomas Richardson set out this 350 acres to Thomas Darling, under the name of Hob Nob at a Venture, and the patent of 350 acres in 1689 to Thomas Darling has the same metes and bounds. Solomon Jones patented in 1688, 150 acres of Jones Level, (part of Druid Hill Park).: John Cole patented, 1704, 126 acres of Happy be Lucky, John Cole patented 1714, 300 acres of Hap Hazzard,. East of Happy be Lucky, and bordering on Hob Nob at a Venture, was the 282 acre tract put to Daniel Richardson, Nov. 24, 1694, as Come by Chance. North of Hob Nob at a Venture and the Level, Lay Parrishes Range, and Parrish Fear., The former patented for 2000 acres to Edward Parrish I of Anne Arundel County, Md. Oct. 5, 1678, and Parrishes Fear, for 380 acres to Edward Parrish II, March 25, 1714. Out of the whole of Hob Nob, The Level, and some parts of Happy be Lucky, Hap Hazzard, Come by Chance, and Parrishes Range, and Parrishes Fear, come the whole area now municipally owned and known as Druid Hill Park, Baltimore, MD. : **************** : : John Parrish, a grandson of this Edward and Clara, the son of John, moved to Philadelphia, Penn. with his family. They became very wealthy farmers. John's brother Edward, living in Maryland, married Rachel Harwood. Some of their children moved back to Virginia. One of their sons, William married Elizabeth Perkins in Charles City County, Virginia in1743. Elizabeth's parents were John Perkins and Emma Corbit Slaughter. So here is where the record family charts starts, with this couple William and Elizabeth (Perkins) Parrish. : Children: Thomas, Frances, Abraham.: Thomas married Mary Edwards in 1765. He was born 1744 in Va. This is our ancestors. : Frances married Mary Dabney.: Abraham married Ann Holland in 1764. This is the ancestors of Dorothy Garrigus - Plainsfield, Indiana, Rt. 3, box 396.: William and Elizabeth Parrish had a large family and so did all of their children. So we will take off from the Thomas and Mary (Edwards) Parrish line.: Records show Thomas was born in Goochland County, Virginia in 1744, and married Mary Edward in Virginia in 1765. Also their son, Abraham L. was listed as born in Virgina in 1767 but in his grandson's autobiography he said his grandfather Abraham L. came over from England with his father, Thomas Parrish as a youth. Lots of times these claims of their grandparents coming from England, when they were born in America was to filla need to be connected to the old world, or give some prestige. Anyway, records show they were born in Goochland County, Virginia. They moved to Louisa County, Va. and after Kentucky as settled and became a state in 1790 and in Union 1792, the Parrishes begin to move to Kentucky about 1800. In 1818 Jackson Purchase increased the area of Ky. to its present size. The Parrishes went to Nelson, Washington, and Brickenridge counties. These are located north central part of the state bordering states Indiana and Illinois.: Back to Thomas and Mary (Edwards) Parrish. (Mary was the daughter of John and Mary (Merryman) Edwards.) They were married in 1765 in Goochland County, Va. Children:: Nelson Edward - born 1765 in Goochland Co., Va. married Elizabeth C. Spencer 28 Dec. 1803, in Louisa Co., Va. He ws a soldier in the Revl.War in 1782. This is Paul Parrish of Baker, Oregon ancestors and your lineage.: Abraham L. - born 1767 in Goochland Co., Va. married Elnor Belt, in 1790 in Pittsylvinia, Co., Va. (Elnor Belt was born in Pittsylvinia Co.) : Other children of Thomas and Mary Parrish are:: Francis L., John, Isabel, Thomas Hamilton (born 1790 in Va. married Elizabeth Dixon 1810 in N. Carolina.) William, Lemuel, and Benjamin. Nine Children in all. : === Footnotes === <references /> === Acknowledgments === | Parrish, Thomas (I240)
