      == Biography ==
      Denyse or Dionys Tuenessen, bp. Apl. 16, 1654; m. 1st Oct. 22, 1682, Elizabeth da. of the Rev. Theodorus Johannes Polhemius of Fl''; m. 2nd, Aug. 12, 1685, Helena da. of Jacques Cortelyou and wid. of Claes or Nicholas Van Bruntof N. U.; d. prior to 1707. Was a master carpenter, and bought land in 1687 in FP, where he then resided and took the oath of allegiance, his name appearing on the patent of said town in 1685. After his second marriage he removed to the lands of his wife on the Nayack tract in the vicinity of the Narrows, and also owned lands at Yellow Hoek. Owned lands on S. I., where he appears to have resided a portion of his time and held the office of justice of the peace. Dec. 30, 1701, as of S. I., he signed a petition of the anti-Leislerian faction. Bought lands at Millstone, N. J., in 1701, and assessed for 80 A. in N. U. in 1706. After his death his wid. m. Hendrick Hendricksen. His descendants adopted Denyse as their surname.

      Nijs ( Denys) Theunissen was a son of [[Nijssen-6|Theunis Nijssen]] and [[Seals-13|Femmetje Seals]].       Nijs (Denys) T(h)eunisse(n) married:# on 22 Oct 1682 Elizabeth Polhemus; daughter of Rev. Theodorus Johannes Polhemus and Catherine Van Werven# on 12 Aug 1685 at New Utrecht Helena Cortelyou; died after 1726; daughter of Jacques Cortelyou and widow of Claes or Nicholas Van Brunt. <ref>Holland Society Book 72 https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/6961/42037_2421401696_0511-00177?pid=80731</ref>
      He was a master carpenter and bought land in Flatbush. After his second marriage he moved to the Nyack tract in the vicinity of the Narrows and also owned lands at Yellow Hoeck. He also owned land on Staten Island and resided there part of the time. In 1701, he purchased lands at Millstone NJ. He died before 1707
