    • == Biography - Reuben Paxson ==
      Reuben Paxson was born on 06 December 1705, Middletown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He appeared in the will of his uncle Henry, receiving the 238 acres of land that he had purchased from George Pownall (and on 11 February 1723/24, Reuben was mentioned as the owner of land bounding that of George Pownall in Solebury). On 10 June 1725, Reuben leased additional land from George Pownall. Besides being a farmer, Reuben was apparently also a tailor.
      He moved to Philadelphia, and on 28 August 1730 he was granted a Certificate of Clearness from the Philadelphia MM (to Abington MM) to marry Alice Simcock, daughter of John Simcock and Mary Waln. They were still in Philadelphia in June 1732, but by early 1735 they were in Piscataway, New Jersey. Then they moved to Somerset County, New Jersey, and then to Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
      By 1744 Reuben began having considerable business dealings in Berkeley County, (West) Virginia (then part of Frederick County), where his wife's great uncle John (who had died) owned land. Reuben was John's primary creditor and thus handled settlement of the estate. Reuben Paxson/Paxton was listed with 400 acres at Tablers Station in the Fairfax survey of 06 May 1751. He apparently moved at least some of his family there from New Jersey, and daughter Nancy was married about 1755 to Col. Zackquill Morgan in Frederick County, VA (now Berkeley Co., WV).
      It was probably in the early 1760s that Reuben began a relationship with Anne Morgan (sister of Zackquill Morgan), but there is no indication that they were ever married. He still owned land in Frederick County in 1766. He was granted a tract of 250 acres (in Craven County, South Carolina) by William Bull Esq., on 27 November 1770. He is presumed to have died in South Carolina, perhaps during the Revolutionary War.
