== Biography ==George and his family came to Pennsylvania from Chester in Cheshire, England in 1682.<ref>"https://www.welcomesociety.org/ancestors-approved-memberships.html." William Penn Fleet ancestors approved for membership: The Welcome Society of Pennsylvania. Accessed 16 September 2018 [[Baty-260|Sj Baty]].</ref> They were Quakers from Lostock Gralam of Witton chapelry, Great Budworth and settled in Makefield Township, Bucks Co, Pennsylvania. He became a First Purchaser of 1000 acres in Group 41.
The following is an exerpt from the Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography:<ref>Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography, Vol. IX published in 1885, page 223.</ref>
:"George Pownall and Ellenor, his wife, of Layloch, in the County of Chester, in old England, yeoman. Came in the ship the "Friends' Adventure." The Master, Thomas Wall. Arrived the 28th of the 7th Month, 1682. Children, Reuben, Elizabeth, Sarah, Rachel, and Abigail Pownall. Servants, John Brearley, Ro. Layler, Martha Worrall. Time of Service & Freedom, To serve 4 years; loose the 29th of the 7th Month, 1686. Wages & Land, 50s. at the end of their time, and 50 Acres of land apeice".
The following is an excerpt from McCracken's Welcome Claimants page 426.
:"George Powell or Pownall loaded, 3 Jun 1682, on the Friends' Adventure 2 chests, 1 coffer, 3 boxes, 1 bag, 2 bundles qty 40 lbs new shoes, 1 1/2 pieces English linen, 3 doz. woolen stockings for me, 2 cwt wroght iron, 2 cwt nails, 1/2 cwt cast lead, 1/4 cwt gunpowder, 1/2 chest window panes, 3 1/2 doz. felts." 1 2
Noted events in his life were:* Tax List: Northwich hundred, 1660, Lostock Gralam, Witton chapelry, Great Budworth, co. Chester. Poll Tax - listed as George Jr.* Immigration: on the ship "Friends' Adventure," Sep 1682, from England to Pennsylvania. 3 George and his wife Eleanor settled in Bucks Co, Pennsylvania.
* Alt Death, 11 Jan 1682/83. According to Alfred R. Justice
George Pownall was killed by a falling tree one month and two days after his arrival. This was the first accidental death known in the County. His son George was born twelve days later.<ref>{{Space:OCLC-12418832 |p=[https://archive.org/stream/historybuckscou00jordgoog#page/n48/mode/2up 32}}</ref>

George was killed by accident soon after their arrival. Eleanor was an active Friend. She married second, Joshua Hoopes.
